Yeah, it's a nautical striped jacket. I like it.
It was inspired by a jacket I've seen on Modcloth: I loved the stripes and the double breasted front but wasn't too keen on the collarlessness.
I used a Burda pattern I've used almost1 year ago before but added longer sleeves and redrafted the front and the collar. A lot of trial and error but in the end it worked. I always sew the lining first and use it as a muslin which works pretty well and was essential this time as my original draft ran way too big.
Matching up the stripes worked pretty well but doing a raglan sleeve with the intention of pattern matching was utopic. Also I added pockets at the side seams, they hardly show and come in so handy.
I used a canvas like cotton for the outside; I think it's intended for sun shades ect, but it was heavy enough for a structured jacket and was a joy to work with. The buttons are golden metal with cream enamel. For the lining I used a beautiful butterfly embroidered cotton from Audrey. I thing it's perfect for the jacket.
Thoughts? And remember, the giveaway is still open. So far, the odds are pretty good.

I love your jacket. Brilliant how you matched the stripes. I like your version better than the Modcloth one.

ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of using the lining as the draft-pattern, think I´m goint to try that next time, although I´m always a little bit scared of linings! Love both of the fabrics!!!
